Introduction

A Warehouse Management System (WMS) and an Order Management System (OMS) are interconnected solutions designed to optimize and streamline critical aspects of a supply chain.

Challenges

This project aims to create a unified and efficient system for managing warehouse operations and the entire order lifecycle. However, several challenges stood in the way of achieving this goal:

– Inefficient and non-scalable order processing: Manual order intake, routing, and fulfillment processes were prone to errors, leading to higher operational costs and customer dissatisfaction. The existing infrastructure lacked the architectural flexibility to efficiently onboard new clients or scale operations for distinct business entities.

– Disjointed systems & data inconsistency: Manual data entry and a lack of integration between existing warehouse and order management processes led to inefficiencies, data discrepancies, and delayed fulfillment across various operational units or potentially different client accounts within their business model.

– Limited visibility and data security concerns: Stakeholders lacked comprehensive, tenant-specific insights into order status, warehouse activities, and overall supply chain performance, impeding data-driven decision-making. Furthermore, ensuring robust data isolation and security for each tenant was a critical concern.

Solutions

To overcome the challenges, Hola Tech adhered to the best practices. Key components of the solution included:

– System architecture design: Development of a robust and scalable microservices-oriented architecture leveraging NestJS for the backend, providing a modular and maintainable codebase. MySQL was chosen as the relational database for its reliability, scalability, and robust support for the chosen multi-tenancy strategy.

– Seamless integration: Leveraging NestJS’s capabilities for building robust APIs, we ensured real-time data flow and synchronization between the WMS, OMS, and other existing enterprise systems (e.g., ERP, CRM), allowing for smooth data exchange across tenant boundaries where applicable.

– Multi-tenancy implementation: We also implemented a multi-tenant architecture to ensure strict data isolation, security, and performance for each independent client or operational unit.

– Managed inventory for 20+ distinct tenants

– Reduced order fulfillment time by an average of 30%

Results

The implemented system successfully met the project’s requirements for performance, scalability, and multi-tenant functionality. The system has significantly streamlined warehouse operations and the entire order lifecycle, managing inventory for over 20 distinct tenants. The integrated WMS & OMS has empowered these businesses to reduce order fulfillment time by an average of 30%. This demonstrates the WMS & OMS project’s success in providing a robust, efficient, and scalable solution for complex supply chain management.
